When is borgias season 2 coming to netflix

Crime Drama History Romance. Did you know Edit. Trivia The show was originally going to have four seasons, but when Neil Jordan thought about doing the fourth season, he didn't have the energy or even story to do ten episodes. Instead of that, he proposed Showtime to wrap up everything with a two-hour television movie. He even wrote the screenplay, but the network refused, arguing it was too expensive, and the season three ending worked as a series finale.

Jordan eventually published the screenplay as an e-book called "The Borgia Apocalypse". Goofs Caterina Sforza's eldest son's name was Ottaviano, not Benito. None of her sons were named Benito; in fact, Benito is not even an Italian name, but Spanish. User reviews Review. Top review. There is only one word to describe this : Brilliant. I watched many historian series, like Rome, Tudors, or Ivanhoe. All these series were good, in my opinion Rome was the best and i thought that it would be impossible to make better series in that genre.

Judging on pilot of the Borgias i was wrong. Casting is spectacular, all the actors are brilliant in their roles, specially Jeremy Irons as pope Alexander, and Colm Feore as cardinal. Storyline is swift, with good tempo, and also very interesting. Maybe there are some holes in historical view, but despite that series is Brilliant.

I can't wait for more, and if it stays on this track, it will be one of the best series ever made! It is a shame they don't give Oscars for TV performances.

Jeremy Irons would deserve one just for starring in pilot of the series!!! FAQ 1. What other shows feature the pope? But it was also the age of Machievelli, of rampant lawlessness, incessant war, and unspeakable depravity.

At the heart of the world order was the Vatican, the arbiter of conflicts between kingdoms and empires.

And at the center of the Vatican was a man whose quest for power would propel him to seek the ultimate prize, the holy see of Rome. He was a man whose name would become synonymous with ruthlessness, and whose reign as Pope would be remembered as the most infamous chapter of the history of the Catholic church, Rodrigo Borgia.

His four children -Juan, the oldest, a prideful, lazy, unscrupulous sexual predator, Cesare, a young man torn between a faith that was not his calling and his dark violent nature, Lucretia, a young girl discovering the secret power that a women's sexuality holds, and Goffredo, an innocent child who would come of age in a family riven by conflict, would provide Rodrigo with a challenge as great as the political maneuvering of his political and religious rivals.

This show was a one hour dramatic series that chronicled the rise to power of this Spanish Cardinal and his clan, who sought to establish a dynasty that held sway over the entire world. Though a man of faith, Rodrigo was also in thrall to the pleasures of the flesh. Not only did he have to deal with the plotting and conspiracies of his fellow cardinals and the representatives of the great powers, but he was locked in a struggle to contain the bitter sibling rivalries that threatened to tear his family apart.

This show was a cauldron of intrigue, violence, murder, lust, politics, faith, incest, betrayal, and redemption, a story as compelling and enlightening as the age in which it took place. Did you know Edit. Trivia Nearly all of the principal actors and actresses were using their natural accents be they American, Russian, Czech, Italian, et cetera with a few notable exceptions. Even Stanley Weber Juan Borgia moderates his French accent, though he doesn't sound as English as his on-screen brother.

This is because the series was intended for dubbing into non-English European languages French, German, et cetera. Goofs A choke pear called "Pope's pear" is used to torture a convicted homosexual in the 2nd season. Choke pears were unknown before the 17th century, more than years after the show's time frame. User reviews 47 Review. Top review. Overall, recommendable. I read reviews complaining about the historical accuracy and actor's accents.

Keep the following in mind: If I wanted to watch a show based on historical facts, produced with utmost accuracy, I'd watch a documentary. Borgia has a historical base, but otherwise, it is just a dramatical account of a time period. Credit to the film crew, though; I do find the majority of the set decorations to blend very well with the storyline, giving the viewer a sense of accuracy.

The actor's accents: I don't have a problem with any accent. Frankly, the differences in accents do stand out, but they are not distracting.

The acting abilities: Unless your name is Kevin Spacey House of Cards or you're some other high end Hollywood hotshot, I don't expect anyone to deliver Oscar worthy performances.

Small inaccuracies are to be expected, especially given that this is a comparatively small production that works on a shoestring budget. Hollywood has deeper coffers and more A-listers. A few things do stand out, though: Doman's portrayal of Pope Alexander is well done. A man caught up in his own desire to rise above and finding the ability to do so at all cost. He is caught between being a man, while having to be a pope. Who wouldn't struggle? Cesare recruits a band of mercenaries with the help of Micheletto to seek revenge on the retreating French troops for burning the nunnery where his beloved Ursula lived; the Pope forges more strategic alliances and enriches himself in the bargain; Lucrezia joins Giulia's quest to aid Rome's poor.

The Pope dispatches Cesare to the castle of Catherina Sforza to demand her allegiance, and Cesare deals with the cunning Sforzas decisively; Alexander disguises himself and travels to Florence to hear the fiery preacher Savonarola , not realizing that Della Rovere is trying to recruit the rebellious holy man to his cause.

Convinced that a destructive lightning strike on St. Peter's Basilica during a mass was a sign of God's disapproval, Alexander begins a Lenten fast; Cesare tries to prove his worth as a military commander with a raid to steal Medici gold; the Pope pressures the reluctant Lucrezia to enter another politically advantageous marriage.

Impressed by Juan's triumphant return from Spain with General Don Hernando at his side, Alexander sends his son to lay siege to the castle of Catherina Sforza's castle, but a surprising turn of events reveals Juan's cowardice; Lucrezia purposely scuttles a scheme to marry her off to a rich Genovese merchant; Savonarola's forces conduct the infamous "Bonfire of the Vanities. Juan returns to Rome trying to spin his combat injury as proof of his valor, but Cesare exposes his brother's ignoble behavior; Lucrezia takes a lover in her intended husband 's younger brother; Della Rovere has recruited an angel-faced young friar as his suicide assassin, and the young man advances their agenda with a bold move against the Pope's food taster.

It's Easter and Alexander makes plans for a celebration to end his pious fast even as Della Rovere's assassin ascends to the position of the Pope's taster; Lucrezia's lover asks for her hand in marriage but her father dismisses him and his request; Juan's wild behavior threatens the life of Lucrezia's child, forcing Cesare to make a chilling decision about his brother.

In the Season 2 finale, tragic news for the Borgia family is followed by a shocking revelation from Cesare; Lucrezia surprises herself by falling for a new suitor, Alfonso of Aragon , and accepts his proposal of marriage; Cesare tortures the rebel leader Savonarola but can't extract a confession, so he fakes one and burns the heretic; the assassin finally strikes with a poisoned chalice of wine.
